Coaching and Feedback Skills

Developing coaching skills is essential for all leaders and managers. Adopting a coaching communication style allows leaders to create an environment where team members can discover their own insights and take ownership of their growth. This fosters self-awareness, innovative thinking, and new approaches.

People leaders who embrace coaching principles can engage with their team on a transformational level, empowering members to take more responsibility for their actions and strategies. This approach builds resilience, encourages innovative thinking, and enhances trust and collaboration within teams.

Feedback is a central pillar of coaching and serves as a tool for growth and improvement. Constructive feedback that is delivered in a supportive manner, should help individuals to recognise their strengths as well as identifying areas for improvement. Using feedback as an opportunity for self-reflection, an effective coach is able to motivate individuals to set and achieve their goals.

GROW Coaching Model

The GROW coaching model is a powerful and straightforward framework that guides leaders in facilitating effective coaching conversations. GROW stands for Goal, Reality, Options (or Obstacles), and Will (or Way Forward).

  • G. It begins with setting clear goals (Goal).
  • R. Next is understanding the current situation (Reality),
  • O. With the Goal and Reality in mind, we explore various strategies and possibilities (Options or Obstacles)
  • W. Finally, we commit to a specific course of action (Will or Way Forward).

This model promotes a structured yet flexible approach, enabling leaders to support their team members in identifying objectives, assessing their current state, brainstorming creative solutions, and fostering accountability for their progress. By using the GROW model, leaders can create an environment of self-discovery, empowerment, and continuous development.
