The IMI – or Institute of the Motor Industry – was established in 1920 and is the professional association for individuals working in the retail motor industry and the authoritative voice of the sector. The organisation is proactively transforming the automotive industry by setting, upholding and promoting professional standards – including skills acquisition, establishing clearer career paths, and boosting public confidence. It is essential that its individuals are kept up-to-date with the latest technological developments and working methods, and that’s where we come in.
The IMI takes training and reputation management very seriously and to this end they run accreditation programmes for motor dealers and garages. Part of the process is for dealers to learn how to manage and motivate their staff and encourage best practice when providing a service to the public.
We provide our Actor Facilitators on a regular basis, for example to play sales managers and/or after-sales managers who need both coaching and managing. The dealer candidates are observed during this role play by qualified assessors. The skills practice observed then is used to form part of the assessment process necessary for the candidates to gain official accreditation.
